What this site knows about you
Short version: we collect almost nothing ourselves, and the things that do set cookies are advertising and booking partners. Here is the whole of it.

Who is responsible
Adequately Luxurious publishes this site and is the data controller for it. For anything on this page, or to make a request about your data, write to hello@adequatelyluxurious.com.
What we collect ourselves
Very little. There is no analytics package on this site: no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no heatmaps, nothing counting you as you move around.
One exception, and it is a narrow one. When you click a booking button on a review we record that a click happened on that page, and the time. No IP address, no browser details, no cookie, no identifier of any kind. A row in that table says that somebody clicked the link on a particular review, and it cannot be traced back to a person. It exists so we can tell which reviews are useful, and it is the only thing on this site that counts anything.
The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running. Those are Vercel’s records rather than ours and are held for a limited period on their infrastructure.
The database behind the site is Supabase, and it holds articles and photographs rather than anything about readers. The only cookies we set directly are sign-in cookies for the editor, and you will only ever have one if you are the person writing the site.
Advertising, and how to turn the personalised part off
This site carries advertising served by Google, and third party vendors including Google use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve advertising to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You can turn off personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of a much longer list of vendors at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com.
How Google handles data from sites that use its services is set out in its own policy.
Booking and affiliate links
Some links to hotels and activities earn us a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. This is stated on the pages where it applies and in the footer of every page.
Those links run through Travelpayouts, which sets a cookie so that a booking made after clicking can be attributed back to this site. It records that a click happened and, if you book, that the booking followed. We are shown commission and volume, never your name, address or payment details.
Some pages embed a booking widget from Tiqets. That is an iframe loaded from their servers, so they can see your IP address and set their own cookies once it loads. How the commercial side works is explained here.
Photographs
Many photographs are served from Unsplash or Wikimedia Commons rather than copied onto our own servers, which means your browser requests them directly and those services can see your IP address. Anything we have shot ourselves is served from our own storage.
The newsletter
The newsletter is not running yet, and the form on the newsletter page does not currently send anywhere or store an address. When it does start, this page will be updated to say who sends it and how to unsubscribe, before a single email goes out.
Cookies, in short
- Advertising: set by Google, to serve and measure ads.
- Affiliate: set by Travelpayouts and its partners, to attribute a booking to this site.
- Embedded widgets: set by Tiqets on pages carrying a booking widget.
- Sign-in: set by us, only for the editor, and only if you sign into the admin.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here, and the only thing that breaks is our ability to be credited for a booking you make.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it is used, and ask for a copy. In practice we hold almost nothing, so the honest answer to most requests will be that there is nothing to send.

Children
This site is written for adults booking hotels and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything about anyone under 13.
Changes
When this changes, the date at the top changes with it. If something material changes, such as the newsletter starting or a new analytics tool arriving, it will be described here before it begins rather than afterwards.
